Drive.ai was a self-driving startup that was acquired by Apple in 2019. The company was founded in 2015 by machine learning researchers from Stanford University and focused on self-driving software systems and intelligent communications systems. Drive.ai had been running a ride-hailing service with its autonomous shuttles in Texas.
The company was once valued at $200 million. However, it was reportedly closing its doors and laying off all its staff before being acquired by Apple. The acquisition could have resulted in dozens of Drive.ai engineers joining Apple’s secretive Project Titan, which has been working on autonomous vehicles.
