Generative Fill is a new feature in Adobe Photoshop that uses Adobe Firefly generative AI to quickly create, add to, remove, or replace images with simple text prompts. Generative Fill is the world’s first co-pilot in creative and design workflows, giving users a new way to work by easily adding, extending, or removing content from images non-destructively in seconds using simple text prompts. The deep integration of next-generation AI across Photoshop’s core tools uniquely enables new creative workflows that supercharge ideation with precise creative control for production.

Generative Fill is part of Adobe’s family of creative generative AI models called Firefly, which launched six weeks ago with an initial focus on the generation of images and text effects. Since its launch, Firefly has been expanded to support vector recoloring and generative fill. The AI can create joyful Photoshop edits and frightening deepfakes, and it can also add new objects into images that were never there before. When it works well, this saves untold hours of effort: Photoshopping things into images before AI required being good at cutting out objects, knowing how to use layers, finding a source image to add in, and adjusting.
There are several YouTube videos available that demonstrate how to use Generative Fill in Photoshop.
