ChatGPT is an AI-powered language model developed by OpenAI. It is a general-purpose chatbot that uses artificial intelligence to generate text after a user enters a prompt. ChatGPT is notable for enabling users to refine and steer a conversation towards a desired length, format, style, level of detail, and language used. Successive prompts and replies are taken into account at each stage of the conversation as a context. ChatGPT is fine-tuned from a model in the GPT-3.5 series, which finished training in early 2022. It is capable of generating human-like text based on context and past conversations.
During the research preview, usage of ChatGPT is free. There is also a premium membership available for $8/month on ChatGPT.AI, which offers additional features such as GPT-4 VoiceGPT, ChatPDF, Getimg, MindGuide, EmailGenie, QuickTranslator, and Prompt Base.
Apple is reportedly testing a ChatGPT-like AI chatbot using its own framework called “Ajax” to create large language models. However, ChatGPT has displayed a tendency to confidently provide inaccurate information. To combat bad actors using their services for academic plagiarism or spam, OpenAI is working on a tool to digitally watermark its text generation systems.
